Early in the morning you can hear the farm awaken. The rooster crows and the chickens start clucking around the yard. The goats begin their morning with loud bleating and the kittens are waiting by the back door for their morning milk. The children come bounding out with dogs in tow, and the first eggs of the day are gathered by precious little hands…O-Wata-Farm!

O-Wata-Farm just outside of Owatonna in southern Minnesota is a 10-acre farm settled by the Felland family. The farm’s three acres of pasture and a pond settled among woodland acres is home to a diverse animal and plant population. We have a big beautiful wood barn that we have painted the traditional “barn red”. We also have several other unique outbuildings. Our western view displays the most beautiful sunsets.

O-Wata-Farm was established under the practice of sustainable agricultural methods that protect our land and environment for future generations. Because we have this land, we felt it was a real opportunity to provide healthy food for our family and our local community while at the same time, being mindful of our environment. This means we don’t use harmful herbicides, pesticides or fertilizers. Our animal feed is certified organic. We care about how animals raised for food are treated. They should live and eat how they were meant to - outside in green pastures, not in confinement treated with drugs and hormones.

Our organic produce includes eggs, and this spring and summer we will be offering a variety of berries, pumpkins and popcorn. We grow our produce in a sustainable manner so that the final product is as healthy as possible and with little or no negative impact on the environment.

Our Family

Our family works the farm together. Our children Olivia, Max and Lucy, have responsibilities with feeding the animals, collecting eggs, cleaning out the barn, chicken coop, and other buildings. They also help a little with fencing and building projects. Jack does the field work along with operating the heavy equipment. He also works on building and farm maintenance projects. Katie takes care of the gardening, daily care of the animals, and the business planning. Our farming philosophy is growing organic produce locally and sustaining globally.
